The Huskies came into the season with National Championship hopes, and they’ve mostly delivered to this point. A big win over No. 7 BYU was the catalyst to move UConn to No. 3 in the AP Polls, but a four-point loss to Arizona knocked them back to their current No. 5. Their last game was a 72-49 victory over Bryant of the AEC, where shooting was at a premium. UConn shot just 39.1% for the game, including 20% from the 3-point line in the win. A bright spot was Silas Demary Jr, who notched a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and four steals.
Illinois comes in undefeated in true home games, with its only loss coming at a neutral site against No. 11 Alabama. Since that loss, the Illini have made short work of Long Island University (98-58) and Texas-Rio Grande Valley (87-73). Illinois shot a gaudy 73.3% inside the arc against the Vaqueros, led by Andrej Stojakovic, who scored 24 points on 11-for-17 from the field (10-for-12 from inside the 3-point line).
