Defensive coordinator Jesse Bobbit leads Washington State into the game as interim head coach after Jimmy Rogers left for Iowa State. Nine Cougars entered the transfer portal since the regular season ended as well, including quarterback Jaxon Potter, leading rusher Kirby Vorhees, receivers Tony Freeman and Carter Pabst; defensive linemen Malaki Ta’ase, Mike Sandjo, and Max Baloun; linebacker Anthony Palano and cornerback Kenny Worthy. Zevi Eckhaus, who started the final nine games, leads the offense with 1,760 passing yards and 12 touchdowns with nine interceptions and is also the leading available rusher with 337 yards and eight scores. Joshua Meredith had 49 receptions for 639 yards and three TDs. Isaac Terrell led the defense with seven sacks.
Leading receiver Braden Pegan is the lone opt-out for Utah State, as he entered the transfer portal. Quarterback Bryson Barnes threw for 2,687 yards with 18 touchdowns and four picks while running for a team-high 733 yards and nine scores. Miles Davis added 724 yards and eight TDs on the ground, and Brady Boyd caught 42 passes for 644 yards and seven touchdowns. John Miller was a defensive force with 109 tackles and 7.5 sacks, and Noah Avinger recorded three interceptions and 10 pass breakups.
Washington State is 3-2 all-time against Utah State since taking a 49-28 victory at home on Nov. 9, 2024.
