She felt he put her social media career under house arrest.

Many blame social media for interfering with their life, but for some people, it’s just the opposite. A woman in India filed a police complaint after her Instagram follower count declined, claiming that her husband’s housework demands cut into her influencer duties.

“I didn’t get time to make reels,” the woman, identified only as Nisha, told the police, the Independent reported.

The woman, who hails from the Hapur District of Uttar Pradesh, has an active presence on the social media platform, reportedly uploading up to two videos per day.

However, her blossoming social media career hit a speed bump after her husband, Vijendra, urged her to dial back her Instagramming and focus more on chores, News18 reported.

When Nisha obliged, her Instagram page reportedly lost two followers, which she blamed on her husband.

“My followers declined as I was kept busy washing utensils and cleaning the house by my husband,” she lamented to authorities, the Deccan Herald reported.

Following a heated argument, Nisha left and went to stay with her parents in Pilkhuwa town, where she filed the aforementioned police complaint.

However, her hubby lodged a countercomplaint claiming that her social media addiction caused her to neglect her housework.

He also accused Nisha of threatening to leave him if she wasn’t permitted to post reels.

“When the husband presented his side, we stepped in to mediate and the couple were counseled,” Aruna Rai, the Station House Officer of the station, told the Independent, adding that the woman has since withdrawn her complaint.

While the matter has been resolved legally, the couple is reportedly still living apart, News18 reported.

Meanwhile, the fallout from the marital spat resulted in Vijendra losing his job, and he is reportedly struggling to find a new one.
