A shooting at a high school party in Fort Wayne, Indiana left one person dead, and 10 others injured late Saturday night, authorities said, leaving the community shaken and police searching for answers.

The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) reported that the incident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of Manistee Drive off Stellhorn Road, a suburban area on the city’s northeast side.

According to local station WISH-TV, multiple 911 calls alerted police to shots being fired, with reports of people fleeing in all directions. Officers arriving at the scene described it as “chaotic,” the outlet reported.

Investigators learned from witnesses that the shooting took place during what was described as a “high school age party,” according to police statements.

As of early Sunday morning, authorities confirmed 11 people were shot, including the deceased victim.

The 10 other victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The exact nature and extent of these injuries have not been disclosed.

The department has not released the names or ages of any victims, maintaining a cautious approach as the investigation unfolds.

They have also not provided information on how many suspects may have been involved in the shooting, leaving many questions unanswered.

Indiana local station WPTA reported that the incident remains under active investigation by the FWPD, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Coroner’s office.

The shooting has prompted a response from city leadership. Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker issued a statement Sunday afternoon, addressing the community’s concerns and the ongoing investigation.

“My heart is heavy today as we try to process the violence that occurred in our city last night,” Tucker said. “The FWPD is working tirelessly to learn more about what happened and bring those responsible to justice.”

The mayor emphasized the importance of community unity in the face of this tragedy. “The safety and security of our community are vital to help ensure a better future for Fort Wayne,” she stated.

“My prayer is that we’ll come together unified as residents and neighbors and not accept this type of behavior.”

As the investigation continues, authorities are casting a wide net for information. They are urging anyone who might have knowledge about the shooting to come forward.
