Jeopardy! did not hold back when it came to their clue about Travis Kelce, 35, on the Wednesday, November 6 episode.
The $200 clue in the Jeopardy! category “The TV Show in Question” read, “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? is hosted by this man who’s maybe more famous as a BF than as a 3-time Super Bowl champ.” Contestant Derek Hieronymus, a sales director from Hutto, Texas, quickly buzzed in and won the money with “Who is Travis Kelce?”
The clue referred to Kelce’s relationship with superstar Taylor Swift, 34, which became public when The Tortured Poets Department hitmaker was seen cheering for Kelce at a Kansas City Chiefs game in September 2023. It also acknowledged Kelce’s new gig as host of Prime Video’s Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, which debuted on October 16.
Fans of the couple seemed to find the Jeopardy! clue a bit “Mean,” and shared their thoughts on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Jeopardy was NASTY with travis kelce today,” one person posted, while others called the clue “shady.”
“Jeopardy with some Travis Kelce shade tonight,” a second X user shared, while a third simply acknowledged the alleged burn from the show, with, “Ouch – that stings!”
On the other hand, one fan of the Kansas City Chiefs tight end saw the positive in the fact that his name had made it onto the beloved game show in the first place. “Making Papa Kelce proud by being a Jeopardy answer,” they posted.
Despite outside criticism, Swift and Kelce have seemingly been going strong, being spotted on PDA-filled dates ever since. Fans even took to social media to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Grotesquerie star admitting his crush on the “Fortnight” singer during an episode of his podcast with brother Jason Kelce, New Heights.
“Happy July 26th to those who celebrate! Today is the ACTUAL one year of the podcast dropping (not yesterday.) So glad Travis talked about giving Taylor Swift a friendship bracelet so we could all see a real life romantic comedy play out,” one person posted.
Lifetime saw the romantic comedy potential, as they are releasing a holiday movie seemingly inspired by their relationship, which is set to debut on November 23, 2024, at 8pm ET/PT as part of the network’s “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” holiday movie lineup.
Christmas in the Spotlight follows pop star Bowyn (Jessica Lord), who has yet to find her Mr. Right — that is, until she meets Drew, a professional football player (Laith Wallschleger), at one of her shows. In the Lifetime movie, the pair’s romance kicks off after Drew makes the public declaration that he has a crush on Bowyn.
Hallmark also has an upcoming film called Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, which premieres on Saturday, November 30 at 8/7c as part of the channel’s Countdown to Christmas event — and partnership with the Chiefs. Hallmark’s movie, which was filmed at Arrowhead Stadium, doesn’t feature characters seemingly inspired by Swift and Kelce.
Instead, the plot follows Alana Higman — who comes from a family of Chiefs superfans hoping to win an official “Fan of the Year” contest — and Derrick, the team’s director of fan engagement, who falls for Alana after the two spend time together to evaluate how her family measures up against other contest entrants.
