The Boston Bruins are on the brink of playoff elimination following a 6-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres in front of 17,850 fans at TD Garden.

The Bruins pulled goalie Jeremy Swayman in the third period after he allowed six goals in just over 46 minutes on the ice. He had 23 saves in 29 shots against on Sunday.
Per Kristen Shilton of ESPN, Swayman voiced his frustration with the way the Bruins played against the Sabres, having an “outburst” directed at his teammates for their poor play in Game 4 before he headed to the locker room.

Bruins head coach Marco Sturm told reporters after the game that the loss was not on Swayman. Sturm “felt bad” for Swayman and thinks the Bruins should be embarrassed for how they played on Sunday.
“Absolutely (like to see that fire). At least from one guy, right,” Sturm said of Swayman, via ESPN. “It was not his fault today. I felt bad for him. That’s why we kept him in there for a while. Because he’s a battler. He wants to be in it… I can’t, I really can’t. I don’t know. I really don’t know.
“If you’re a Boston Bruin and playing at home, you should be very excited going into a playoff game. We didn’t [play well]. … I’m embarrassed. We should all be embarrassed.”
Swayman is an All-Star goalie who recently helped Team USA win the gold medal in the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. He knows a thing or two about playing in big games. But his teammates in front of him didn’t live up to their end of the bargain.
The Bruins are down 3-1 in their first-round series against the Sabres. The Bruins will travel to Buffalo to play the Sabres in Game 5 on Tuesday night.
Given the embarrassment Sturm and multiple Bruins players said they had after Sunday’s loss, the team should be more than motivated to force a Game 6.
