Jessica Biel is venturing into unscripted true crime content with Investigation Discovery’s Fatal Destination, which credits her not just as an executive producer but as a narrator as well.

In Us Weekly‘s exclusive debut of the six-part series, Biel, 43, sets the scene, saying, “They came for the escape, the adventure, the once in a lifetime trip. But some people never make it back. Sometimes, a dream getaway turns into a deadly nightmare.”

Fatal Destination premieres on June 3 and will unpack “the dark side” of paradise.

“Idyllic getaways unravel into haunting mysteries exposing the sinister secrets lurking beneath sunlit shores, mountain retreats, and bustling boardwalks in the new six-part series,” read the official synopsis. “Each story unfolds through first-person accounts of friends, family, locals, journalists, and law enforcement who unpack the chilling tales of deception, violence, and tragedy in exotic locales where being a tourist is anything but a vacation.”

Biel got her start as an actress in various memorable roles, including 7th Heaven, The Sinner and Limetown. Recently, however, she has expanded her focus to being an executive producer on TV shows such as Cruel Summer, Candy and Apple TV+’s The Better Sister. Fatal Destination is the first time Biel has been involved behind the scenes in an unscripted project.

“I have always been fascinated by the complexities behind true crime – what drives a person to commit such a heinous act, the dogged investigators that work diligently to solve the cases, and of course, the devastating impact on the loved ones left behind,” Biel shared in a statement. “While I have performed in several scripted crime series, Fatal Destination marks my first foray into executive producing unscripted true crime content, so partnering with ID, the leader in the genre, has been a dream come true in the process of exposing real-life nightmares.”

The President of Investigation Discovery Jason Sarlanis also reflected on the collaboration, saying, “Jessica Biel is a true powerhouse, both on and off the screen. Having captivated audiences with her portrayals of characters inspired by true crime, Jessica’s deep commitment to storytelling and her compelling narration now bring these real-life mysteries to life.”

Sarlanis continued: “At ID, we’re always looking for bold new ways to tell stories that captivate and resonate with our audience, and with Jessica at the helm, Fatal Destination offers an unforgettable exploration into the dark side of paradise.”

According to a press release, Fatal Destination‘s premiere episode follows Jake Merendino‘s murder in Mexico. The other cases covered in the upcoming doc include Emily Ferlazzo‘s disappearance in Vermont, Brittanee Drexel‘s murder in Myrtle Beach, Adon Manzano‘s death during a trip to New Orleans, the Joe Cool ship incident in Miami and a murder tied to the Rainbow of Living Festival.

Fatal Destination premieres on Tuesday, June 3, at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes will be available to stream on Max.
