Just ahead of the 2025 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers shocked the league by acquiring superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Cowboys.
It was one of the biggest trades in recent league history. The move shook up the landscape of the league and made the Packers a much more serious contender.
Many are still reeling from the news of the trade. With Parsons set to make his Green Bay debut against the Detroit Lions in Week 1, one NFL legend spoke out with a strong message looking back at the trade.
Report: Packers Almost Made Another Blockbuster Trade Before Micah Parsons
NFL on CBS shared what Watt had to say about the Parsons trade. He was clearly shocked that the trade went down.
“Trades of this magnitude just don’t happen that often — they’re so rare,” Watt said.
Watt is 100 percent correct. This kind of trade does not go down very often. Very few elite pass rushers have been moved in the prime of their career.
Parsons has played in the NFL for four seasons, all of which have been with the Cowboys. He has appeared in 63 total games, racking up 256 tackles, 52.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and nine defended passes.
At just 26 years old, Parsons is going to be a cornerstone piece for the Packers. He’s going to be around for a long time as well.
Now, the question becomes, was Parsons the move Green Bay needed to win a Super Bowl? Will he be able to make that kind of impact and live up to the hype that is surrounding him? The Packers sure believe so.
Report: Bears QB Caleb Williams Facing Difficult Off the Field Condition
Fans will get their first look at Parsons against the Lions. He isn’t expected to play a full game due to the L4/L5 facet joint sprain in his back that he’s dealing with. However, Green Bay will be utilizing him in its pass rush as the defense looks to get after Jared Goff.
Obviously, Watt is a big fan of the move for the Packers. It will be interesting to see how his first year in Green Bay looks when it’s all said and done.
