For a player whose contract with a team doesn’t end until 2029, there is never-ending speculation about Joe Burrow’s football future.
The Cincinnati Bengals’ franchise quarterback is once again in the middle of trade rumors, as he has been for the majority of 2025 and the first few months of 2026.
Burrow was publicly unhappy and disillusioned in the back half of the 2025 season, openly saying he needed to learn to have “fun” playing football again after another wasted season.
After making the Super Bowl in 2021 and losing in a close loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Burrow thought he was just beginning his quest to become the top QB in the sport.
But after three straight seasons of missing the playoffs, Burrow is searching for answers in Cincinnati, and over a dozen teams across the league are monitoring his situation.
While most of the Burrow trade talk is communicated in whispers and anonymous sources, one NFL legend is being upfront about his recruitment for Joe Burrow: James Harrison.

The legendary Pittsburgh Steeler and former Defensive Player of the Year, in a recent podcast appearance, not only said he wants Burrow to be the future signal-caller of the Steelers, but he is actively recruiting him over phone calls to prompt the gunslinger to turn his AFC North jersey in for another.
“I’ve been doing a lot of talking to Joe Burrow,” Harrison admitted. “I’ve been conversing with him on a weekly basis. We’ve been having conversations. I talked to him on the phone yesterday.”
Harrison went on to say that he spoke with Burrow about speaking with Bengals owner Mike Brown and discussing what it would take for him to be transferred to the Steelers organization.
Although unlikely, if Burrow demanded a trade from Cincinnati, it would open the floodgates for several teams, including the Steelers, to make their best offers for the superstar QB.
Harrison, though, as the Steelers await Aaron Rodgers’ decision on whether he will return in 2026, believes that Burrow could be the franchise QB of the future for Pittsburgh.
