After being called out by former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou during Saturday’s MVP MMA: Rousey vs. Carano card, fellow former heavyweight champion Jon Jones admitted he wanted to get out of his UFC contract to finally set up the grudge match with the Cameroonian powerhouse.
“I’ve got to focus on getting out of my UFC contract,” Jones said during the broadcast. “I don’t think Dana (White’s) interested in doing business with Francis, so doing it with MVP would probably be the only way to make it happen if we can get out of my contract. That would be great.”
Well, Jones may be trying everything he can to, in fact, get out of his UFC contract, which includes taking a public shot at the company.
During an Instagram live video, Jones threw shade at his employer, stating Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions’ inaugural MMA card was better than anything the UFC has done.
“I though the MVP promotion was absolutely unbelievable,” Jones said. “I think it was actually better than the UFC. I never been at such a promotion — I mean they had the fog machines, TVs absolutely everywhere, great fighters.”
Jones is in the midst of a public dispute with UFC president Dana White, who recently stripped him of the heavyweight title while telling reporters he would never consider putting Jones on the UFC’s White House card.
White even went as far as to say Jones retired because he had arthritis in his hips and that Jones was done with the UFC, to which the 38-year-old emphatically asked to be let out of his contract.
“If the UFC truly feels like I’m done, then I respectfully ask to be released from my contract today,” Jones stated.
