Turns out there really was a “monster” under this bed.
A Kansas babysitter received a hair-raising fright Monday night when she came face-to-face with a grown man hiding underneath a child’s bed, as she checked for monsters, authorities said.
As the woman was putting the children to sleep just outside the city of Great Bend around 10:30 p.m., one of the kids complained about a “monster” lurking in the room, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office said.
When the babysitter tried to show the child there was nothing to worry about, she made the heart-stopping discovery.
A male suspect, identified as 27-year-old Martin Villalobos Jr., was under the bed, law enforcement said.
An altercation ensued between Villalobos and the babysitter before he ran from the house, according to the sheriff’s office.
One of the children was knocked over in the commotion.
The following morning, sheriff deputies spotted the suspect in the area and arrested him after a brief foot chase.
Villalobos once lived at the home, but was banned from the property because of an abuse order, authorities said.
His relationship to the children and the residents of the home was not released by authorities.
He’s facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment and felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
He also is facing a violation of the protection order against him and is being held in custody on $500,000 bail.
