Along with having some high-profile owners, the Washington Commanders also have some notable famous fans. With training camp just around the corner, one fellow star athlete appears excited for the 2025 campaign.
Last season, the Commanders emerged as one of the NFL’s biggest success stories. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels had an immediate impact on the franchise, helping them quickly climb the ranks in the NFC. Not only did Washington punch their ticket to the postseason, but they were one win away from reaching the Super Bowl.
During a recent episode of his Boardroom show, Kevin Durant had on New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers. The two got to talking about the NFC East, as KD is a known fan of the Commanders. Nabers admitted it was hard to talk trash with the NBA star because of his connection to Daniels. The two built a strong friendship during their time together in college at LSU.

Following the episode, Durant posted a quote from Nabers on X (formerly Twitter). He also sent a message to the Commanders’ QB, sharing his excitement for a strong showing in his second year in the pros.
Daniels first arrived at LSU in 2022 after spending his first three years at Arizona State. His best campaign was as a senior, where he notched 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns. Nabers was his top target that season, racking up 1,569 yards and finding the end zone 14 times.

After bursting on the scene in a big way last season, the hype around Daniels has increased drastically. Many have dubbed him the top young QB in the league, with some feeling he belongs in the conversation with the best players at the position.
Heading into his second season with the Commanders, Daniels will be looking to avoid the dreaded “sophomore slump.” Washington has their sights set on remaining a contender in the NFC, and the young QB is a driving force in how far they can go.
Daniels does have one thing going for him, that being an upgraded supporting cast. The Commanders surrounded their touted prospect with new weapons, most notably San Francisco 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel. If they’re able to work things out with Terry McLaurin, Daniels will have a pair of dynamic receivers at his disposal.
Along with being hype for the Commanders, Durant is embarking on a new journey of his own. Earlier this summer, the former MVP saw himself traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets.
