Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari are fully grown women with wildly successful careers and flourishing lives as mothers, but in reality TV lore, they will always be the teenagers who hated each other on MTV’s iconic Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County from 2004 to 2006.
There isn’t enough space here to dissect the full backstory from two decades ago, but the central issue between Conrad and Cavallari was competing feelings for Stephen Colletti.
Cavallari, Conrad, Colletti, and the rest of the original cast reunited on the red carpet ahead of The Reunion: Laguna Beach in Santa Monica, Calif., on Thursday night.
At the event, Cavallari and Conrad got in on a TikTok trend by recreating a video of early-career Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift. Cavallari captioned her Instagram post, “Besties @laurenconrad.”
In Cavallari’s Instagram video, Conrad lip-syncs to Swift, saying, “Our personalities are opposite, so it works.” Cavallari lip-syncs Cyrus’ part, saying, “Yeah, and our voices, too. I mean, you guys are such, like, a random two people to put together, but we’re both from the same town or whatever, so we mix, for sure.” Conrad punctuates it with one more Swift lip-sync: “We’re friends.”
As of this writing, Cavallari’s post has been viewed six million times on Instagram and 108,700 times on TikTok.
The Roku Channel revealed the trailer for The Reunion: Laguna Beach on Tuesday.
In it, Cavallari and Conrad have their first-ever on-camera conversation with just the two of them. Casey Wilson will host the reunion, and Conrad admits, “We did not like each other.”
“It was a really weird thing we went through,” Conrad says in the trailer. “It’s strange that people showed up at our high school and asked us to do this.”
Entertainment Tonight revealed that the opening sequence of The Reunion recreates the original show’s iconic opening sequence soundtracked by Hilary Duff’s “Come Clean.”
