Twelve years after his death, Lea Michele reflected on attending the 2012 Met Gala alongside her then-boyfriend, Cory Monteith.

Speaking about her memorable fashion moments over the years in the YouTube series Gloves Off with Nicky Campbell on Thursday, June 12, the Glee alum looked back on the couple attending the prestigious event.

“This was my second [Met Gala]. The first one I wore Escada, red, first Met Ball, deer in headlights, no clue what I was doing,” Michele, 38, said as she spoke about her Met Gala outfits. “This was my second one. Cory and I went together, which was so exciting that we could both go. You know, you’re not really allowed to bring anyone to the Met.”

The actress went on to describe the night as being “so much fun.”

“It was one of those moments that we were like, ‘What are we doing here?’ That we’re these uncool kids … what are we doing here?” she recalled.

Monteith died of a heroin and alcohol overdose in July 2013 after a battle with addiction. He was 31.

Last month, Michele opened up about what it was like grappling with her grief following Monteith’s death — an experience that became even more difficult due to their fame.

In the May 8 episode of the “Therapuss” podcast, Michele revealed that her home became a stop on a Hollywood bus tour, which was about celebrities who had died.

“I had a tour bus that would go past my house in West Hollywood, and you would hear, ‘Lea Michele [is] Rachel Berry on Glee,’ and then I would hear ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’ playing while I’m sitting in my living room,” Michele shared. “It was the tour of people [who] have died, and after everything happened, this bus would come by.”

The Broadway star added: “Here I was, 26 years old. This tour bus would go back by my house, and every day I would hear these details, and eerie music would be playing from the tour bus.”

Michele told podcast host Jake Shane that she was unprepared with how to deal with a partner’s death in such sad circumstances, especially given how young they both were at the time.

“It was so sad [and] it was so depressing,” Michele, who dated Monteith while they were Glee costars, continued. “I was 26. No one handed me a guidebook. It was a fast education on more stuff than I could ever even process.”
