The official NFL schedule release hit on Thursday evening, giving fans a look at when they can watch their teams in action throughout the upcoming season.
There will be a plethora of intriguing primetime games to watch, including one featuring the NFC’s Detroit Lions visiting the AFC’s Buffalo Bills. The game is among Amazon Prime’s “Thursday Night Football” matchups and will occur on Thursday, Sep. 17, in Week 2.
It features last year’s Bills team, which once again seemed like a strong contender, and even more so when Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson were all watching the playoffs with their teams at home. However, Josh Allen and company failed to deliver, losing a tough game to Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos.
On the opposing side, the Detroit Lions had a disappointing season in the competitive NFC North. They failed to replicate their 2024-25 success, which included a playoff run, and did not qualify for the postseason, while the Chicago Bears went on a magical run and claimed the division.

The 2026 meeting between Detroit and Buffalo marks the first home game of the season for the Bills, and it appears fans are already clamoring to see how the team looks.
According to Gametime Ticket Data, ticket prices are averaging $2,057, making it the most expensive game so far this season.
It goes to show how much some fans are willing to pay for a glimpse of their favorite team, or how much third-party sellers can make by snatching up all the tickets before fans can get to them.
Many expect both teams to be among NFL contenders this coming season, as each has made some significant roster moves. The Bills gave Allen another star receiver to aid in the quest for a Super Bowl appearance, making a trade with the Chicago Bears to get DJ Moore.
The Lions traded David Montgomery to the Houston Texans, but then added Isiah Pacheco as a new running back, teaming him up with Jahmyr Gibbs. Goff has a few new wide receivers to throw to with free agency signing Greg Dortch and fifth-round draft pick Kendrick Law.
Many fans and analysts believed that the Bills and Lions might meet up in the Super Bowl a few seasons ago. It wasn’t in the cards then or last season, but could it happen this season?
Both teams are among the top 10 teams in odds to win the Super Bowl. They’re each projected to have over 10.5 wins in the coming season, according to Fanduel Sportsbook odds, suggesting they’re trending in the right direction. However, Week 2 is going to be an early measuring stick in what could be a battle between future Super Bowl contenders.
