Los Angeles mom gives birth to newborn triplets weighing 19lbs — just shy of Guinness World Record

A Los Angeles mother has given birth to triplets that narrowly missed setting a world record for their combined weight.

Nyla Craft, from South LA, delivered Elio, Elias and Enzo on August 18, with the three hitting a total of 19.3lbs — just shy of the world record of 22lbs, 12.6oz.

Two of the newborns are identical twins and all three are boys. Each of the boys weighed six pounds and were all born on their father’s birthday.

The couple spoke to CBS LA about their spectacularly unique family. Dad Marco Bernal was seen cradling two of the babes in his arms while Nyla carried the third.

She said: “When I heard the first baby come out, I cried because I was just, ‘oh my gosh … he’s okay,’ then the second one then the third one, and I was just like, I heard them all crying at once, and I was like, ‘oh thank God, they are good.’”

Their family has now grown to seven in total with the triplets joining their two older siblings.

Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center Dr. Rohit Passi, chief of neonatology, expressed his happiness for the family.

He said: “We’re just so happy. This is the best part, seeing them out and sitting with the family and this is the reason we do what we do.”

The Guinness World Record for the heaviest birth was set in 1879 when Anna Haining Swan, one of the tallest women ever at 7’11”, gave birth to a 22 lb baby.

She reportedly lost an estimated six gallons of fluid when her water broke.

Meanwhile the record for heaviest triplets at birth belongs to Evan Patrick, Aiden Cole and Lilly Kathryn from Englewood, Colorado, who weighed 22lbs 12.06oz in July 2003.
