The House Ethics Committee confirmed Thursday that it is investigating allegations of misconduct against Republican Representative Chuck Edwards after calls from some of his colleagues.
The investigation follows a recent wave of allegations of inappropriate behavior made about a handful of lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, with GOP Representatives Nancy Mace, Ana Pauline Luna, and Lauren Boebert leading efforts to hold alleged perpetrators to account.
Allegations about Edwards, who represents North Carolina, having an improper relationship with a subordinate were first reported last week, with the Ethics Committee saying Thursday it was looking into this, as well as accusations that he created a hostile work environment.
Edwards told Newsweek in a statement he welcomed the news, saying, “As I have stated, I welcome any investigation and plan to comply fully with the Committee. I am confident the investigation will expose the facts, not politically motivated fiction.”
