A mother has sparked laughter across the internet after giving her daughter’s boyfriend a Spanish lesson via their Ring doorbell camera.

The woman’s daughter, Sofia Caldera (@sofiacaldera123), shared footage of the incident on TikTok, explaining in the caption that her mother is “determined” to get her boyfriend to learn Spanish.

The video, captured by the family’s Ring doorbell camera, shows Sofia’s boyfriend waiting at the front door before her mother is heard saying—in Spanish—hello and asking who’s there.

“Mi Goober [his nickname],” the boyfriend says in response, before correcting himself with, “Soy Goober.”

She then tells him—again in Spanish—to come in, to which he chuckles and asks her what it means.

“Está abierta la puerta, pásate,” the mother replies, which means the door is open and to come in.

“Oh, OK,” he says, reaching for the door before hesitating and saying, “Wait, does that mean come in?”

The mother starts laughing and replies in English, “Yes,” before he says, “Gracias!”

TikTok users flocked to the comments to share their thoughts, with many appreciating Sofia’s boyfriend’s manners.

“He’s so respectful…. He’s a keeper, momma,” one wrote, while another added, “His making sure that does mean come in before opening the door says a lot. What a polite young man.”

“She likes him, or she wouldn’t try to teach him,” one contributor pointed out.

Finally, the boyfriend’s mother popped up in the comments, exclaiming, “I love this! This is my son, and he is trying so hard! Thank you for teaching him!

“I have been calling him Goober forever, and I love that his girlfriend’s family does too!”

Family and partner reaction videos surface frequently on TikTok, and one previous Newsweek story reported on a viral video in which a woman’s family greeted a new boyfriend in an unexpected way.

In the footage, posted by Taylor Hylton, her family can be seen forming a human tunnel before cheering and screaming as Taylor’s cousin Alex and her boyfriend Brian walk through the front door.

Speaking to Newsweek, Taylor said, “This was the first time we had done something like this. Some of the cousins had been seeing funny videos on TikTok of families saying the Pledge of Allegiance at the dinner table when meeting someone’s significant other for the first time.

“We wanted to do something funny like that, but we knew that none of us would be able to keep a straight face if we said the pledge. So we decided on what you see in the video instead.”

Another Newsweek story covered a TikTok video in which a group of women gave their boyfriends a playful test to determine which of their respective boyfriends would respond to their call first.

Newsweek has reached out to @sofiacaldera123 for comment via TikTok. We could not verify the details of the case.
