A homeowner has revealed the moment he uncovered a hidden architectural feature in his house, surprising both himself and thousands of viewers online.

Speaking to Newsweek, the 33-year-old Reddit user, who posts under u/Drunk__Goku, said he recently discovered a pair of brown wooden pocket doors—complete with original hardware—concealed inside the walls of his home in Boston, Massachusetts.

“The walls on each side combine to be about the width of the door, and we found the original floor plan through our library, and it showed what appeared to be pocket doors,” the man said. “Also, over time, when owners have removed doors, they put them in the basement, and we did not see any pocket doors, so we had a feeling they were still in there!”

The homeowner had shared his find in a post on Reddit.

“Look What I Found Hidden in the Walls! Original hardware and everything,” the post reads. An accompanying image shows the double doors tucked neatly into the walls, their dark wood and vintage fittings visible as if untouched for years.

The post has been upvoted more than 2,700 times, attracting comments from Reddit users who praised the unexpected discovery. Many remarked on the craftsmanship and character of the doors, while others expressed envy at such a rare find.

“Jackpot,” one viewer said, while another added: “Those are beautiful.”

“What a score,” a third viewer said, in agreement. “Lucky!”

“That is a great find,” one commenter added. “Sometimes people do things like this to make it look more modern.”

“This makes me want to tear down all of my door frames, just in case,” another viewer shared.

“Sometimes pocket doors get frozen and original owners just decide not to deal with them any longer and imprison them in the wall,” one user commented. “Ours were FROZEN and took a lot to get rolling freely again. I love them.”

“What was hiding the pocket doors? What did you remove? What a beautiful find,” another said.

“Congrats! I know the joy of hidden pocket doors,” a third added.

The decision to investigate the wall came after the homeowner noticed its unusual proportions and consulted the historic floor plans. The documents showed that the original design appeared to include pocket doors, which are a space-saving feature that slide into the wall rather than swinging open.

After finding no sign of the doors in the basement, where previous homeowners typically stored removed fixtures, the man’s suspicion that the doors might still be in place was strengthened. That hunch paid off when the wall was opened to reveal them, hardware intact.
