A boyfriend has once again been a pest during a woman’s marathon moment, sparking viral anger online.

Florida runner Katie shared her race day saga on TikTok, where it’s racked up millions of views.

“When you gave your boyfriend extra snacks to give you during your marathon and he eats them all,” she captioned the clip.

“He genuinely doesn’t care”

He broke this news to her mid-marathon, while standing on the sidelines filming.

You might think it’s not that deep. It is.

It’s about dismissing the work women put in, turning their moment into a punchline, and making themselves the main character.

He didn’t just swipe a snack. He took from her fuel, knowingly. That’s more than careless; it’s disrespectful.

Caring for someone’s well-being is a bar so low it’s practically on the floor. He managed to stomp on it while chomping down on her protein bar.

The comments have been turned off on her post, but TikTok hasn’t let it go. Response videos are flooding in.

User Kellymacj is among those calling it out. She said she hopes there’s a follow-up video updating that he’s now her “ex-boyfriend” because his behaviour was “insane.”

“She trained for a marathon. Marathon training takes months. It’s not something that’s easily done,” Kelly explained.

“Not only is he sabotaging your marathon. He genuinely doesn’t care about you.”

“He was jealous”

Katie was left relying on aid stations to keep fuelled and avoid burnout.

Comments under Kelly’s video echoed the outrage:

“He’s a runner himself who knows the importance of those snacks so it is MUCH deeper.”

“It’s sabotage. He was jealous and wanted her to fail.”

“He was recording her reaction! He knew she’d be upset and wanted to catch it on video.”

It’s not the first time a man has undermined a woman’s race.

In May last year, a father in Brazil urged his kids onto the course to greet their mother as she sprinted toward victory. She dodged them and went on to win, but the viral backlash fell squarely on him, overshadowing her accomplishment.

A wrong decision can not only undo months of training but also go viral for all the wrong reasons.

Katie deserved a boyfriend who handed her snacks and support in equal measure. She trusted him.

Acts of care are key to healthy relationships

As a mum of a boy, I try to model this so he grows up respecting others. Choosing small acts of kindness, even when it’s inconvenient.

My husband does too: whether it’s turning on my heated blanket before I get home late, checking my car’s tyre pressure, or slipping my favourite chocolate bar into the trolley.

Little acts of love are a love language. Sabotaging the success of the people we love is not.

That’s the kind of partner I want my son to be one day. The man who fuels others, not one who takes their fuel for himself.
