A video capturing a beachgoer’s unusual way of putting sunscreen on his body has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was shared by @melnetoo and has garnered more than 2.4 million views since it was shared on August 16.

The video shows a shirtless man sitting on a beach with his back to the camera. He is shown applying sunscreen, using what looks to be a paint roller. A caption shared with the post simply reads: “Artista.”

Regardless of how you apply the sunblock, wearing sunscreen at the beach and elsewhere outdoors is vital for your health.

A March 2023 study in the Archives of Dermatological Research noted that 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer before the age of 70, and “consistent sunscreen use can help decrease the prevalence of this.”

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns that most skin cancers are caused by too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. These rays are an invisible form of radiation from the sun, tanning beds, and sunlamps, and can damage skin cells.

The CDC says: “Protection from UV rays is important all year, not just during the summer. UV rays can reach you on cloudy and cool days, and they reflect off surfaces like water, cement, sand, and snow.”

The health body advises wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen that filters out both UVA and UVB rays and has an SPF of 15 or higher before heading outside. “Don’t forget to put a thick layer on all exposed skin. Get help for hard-to-reach places like your back,” the CDC said.

‘Innovative’

Viewers on TikTok praised the unconventional but “innovative” method for applying sunscreen.

Georgiana Papa wrote: “Great idea, toddlers and resistant men will be more interested in applying sunscreen like this.”

Ana said, “OK but that’s actually genius,” and user ro16 posted that it was: “Absolute Genius.”

Maria commented: “THAT’S SO SMART WHY DID I NEVER THINK AB [about] THIS.”

User sherwinwilliams described it as “Innovative!” and Eurowings asked: “Is bro is already living in 2050?”

Catarina PG hailed him as a “resourceful king,” while livgibbins_ posted: “We love to see an independent, sun damage conscious, king.”
