Meghan Markle is now aware of the conversation surrounding her Netflix show.

During an interview with the New York Times, which was published on Wednesday, April 2, Meghan, 43, was filled in on the online chatter surrounding her decision to use pricey Le Creuset cookware

“This is a thing, in 2025?” she asked, to which her mother, Doria Ragland, chimed in, “Everything is coming in hot these days.”

With Love, Meghan, which premiered in March, highlighted Meghan’s personal tips and tricks in the kitchen, her garden and beyond as the Duchess of Sussex ventured into the lifestyle space. The series has already been renewed for a second season after featuring familiar guest stars including Mindy Kaling, Abigail Spencer and more.

Back to Le Creuset, NYT pointed out that among the noise, there has been a lot of defense for Meghan.

“Why is anyone surprised or disturbed that she would have beautiful color coordinated cookware?” MSNBC editor Michele Norris wrote via Threads. “Does anyone drag Ina or Martha for their cookware? Sure it would be nice to see a big heavy well-seasoned black skillet up in there. But did anyone expect that? So Yes, Le Creuset is beautiful but it is not merely performative cookware.”

Media strategist Elise Roberts also sounded off, telling Today in March, “I thought to myself, ‘Well, wait, are we not supposed to have nice things?’ And by ‘we,’ I mean Black women. I went down this rabbit hole and saw the broader discussion and I was like, ‘Well, I have a collection,’ and my newest add to my collection was this big, beautiful peach Dutch oven.”

She continued: “We are not new to this. We have made the best out of very little when we had no choice but to do that, and now that we are thriving, we too deserve nice things.”

The NYT story also pointed out that Meghan anticipates some critiques as she shares recipes.

“I know some people will be upset that I took out the wafers,” she said as she made banana pudding. “But I like them crumbled on top.”

Overall, Meghan isn’t sweating the online criticism, explaining. why she wanted to have a committed professional career in addition to raising kids Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, with husband Prince Harry.

“I need to work, and I love to work,” she said, pointing out that until she met Harry, 40, she had a job since she was 13. “This is a way to connect my home life and my work.”

After her series came out, Meghan opened up about adjusting to having cameras filming her.

“It feels as though we’re just spending time together, which is what it ended up being,” she told People about the crew’s presence in the series. “I’d make a recipe and say, ‘Everyone try this,’ and there are certain dishes where you just watch everyone flock in. I’d say, ‘We’ve run out of spoons!’ It ended up feeling so communal, and that’s the spirit of the show.”

Season 2 of With Love, Meghan has already been filmed and will premiere on Netflix in fall 2025.
