A retired Pima County Sheriff detective believes that Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping was premeditated and involved “two to four accomplices,” according to a report.

Kurt Dabb, who worked with the agency now leading the search for the missing 84-year-old matriarch, told Parade that a high-profile abduction like Guthrie’s would need more people involved than just the masked, armed man caught on her doorbell camera that night she vanished.

“I believe there are anywhere between two to four accomplices,” he said when asked if he believes the suspect on camera acted alone.

“The logistics of something of this magnitude is too much for one person to handle in my professional opinion based on the facts as I know them right now,” he added.

“It’s more than likely the home was canvassed prior, either by the kidnapper himself or an accomplice, ” he continued. “Whether or not they knew a camera was there was a culmination of their reconnoiter.”

Dabb agrees with other law enforcement experts that Guthrie’s disappearance was not a result of a botched robbery but a targeted kidnapping, again referencing the front door footage.

“Burglars don’t go to burglarize a house with a full backpack. This was a kidnapping,” he said.
