A veteran detective has explained the possible motive behind two ransom notes from someone claiming to have information about the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.
TMZ reported that it received two notes on Monday, from the same person, demanding one bitcoin to “deliver” Nancy Guthrie’s kidnappers “on a silver platter.” In the second note, the sender said they saw her alive with the kidnappers in the Mexican state of Sonora.
Brian Martin, a detective who specializes in cold cases, told NewsNation’s Brian Entin on Brian Entin Investigates that the sender is somebody “who wants to be heard.”
He said: “I would hope that, if it is the person involved in Miss Guthrie’s disappearance, that they want to be heard and are legitimately trying to negotiate some type of deal, or whatever it is that they’re looking to do, and not maybe somebody who has ulterior motives for attention that has nothing to do with the case.”
Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for more than two months. She was last seen at her home just outside Tucson, Arizona, on January 31 and was reported missing the next day. Authorities believe she was kidnapped and said drops of her blood were found on the front porch.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
