Filmmaker Nancy Meyers has confirmed that she will begin shooting a new feature film in May 2026, and that Kieran Culkin will be part of the ensemble cast—marking a full-circle moment for the actor who appeared as a child in her 1990s Father of the Bride films.

Meyers made the announcement during a December 20 Q&A celebrating the rom-com classics, which she co-wrote and produced. While the conversation focused on the legacy of Father of the Bride, Meyers let slip a significant update about her next project for fans, revealing not only the timeline and Culkin’s casting, but also that the film will be released in theaters, not on a streaming platform like Netflix.

The news comes amid ongoing speculation about Meyers’ stalled project Paris Paramount, a $100 million-plus feature initially in development at Netflix before being dropped and finding a new home at Warner Bros.

Though she did not confirm whether the 2026 film is Paris Paramount, Meyers had previously addressed the film’s budgetary and production struggles.

“The movie is about a group of people making a film and the magic and mystery of what we do. As always, Lubitsch said it best,” Myers wrote on Instagram in 2023.

That film was originally rumored to star Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, Penélope Cruz and Michael Fassbender, but it remains unclear whether those actors are still attached following the project’s transition away from Netflix. Meyers had requested a $150 million budget, but after the streaming giant capped its offer at $130 million, Warner Bros. reportedly stepped in with a deal that met her halfway, albeit with a lower budget than Netflix’s upper limit.

Known for a streak of early-2000s hits—including What Women Want, Something’s Gotta Give, The Holiday, and It’s Complicated—Meyers established herself as a reliable box-office draw with a distinct visual and emotional style.

Her films often blend romantic comedy with elegant, aspirational interiors, warm lighting and orchestral scores, inspiring niche design trends and entire blogs and fanpages dedicated to the kitchens, bedrooms, and wine-soaked patios in her central characters’ homes.

In the same Q&A, Meyers emphasized that her new movie will have a theatrical release, a notable stance in an era where streaming services dominate the distribution of romantic comedies. The statement signals a possible shift back toward traditional cinema for prestige rom-coms, with Meyers leading the charge.

Kieran Culkin’s inclusion in the cast also links back to the director’s earlier work.

Culkin played Matty Banks, the younger brother in Father of the Bride and its 1995 sequel. Now an Oscar-winning actor for his role in Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain, Culkin is experiencing a critical and commercial peak. He will next appear in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, due in November 2026, with the Meyers film expected to follow.
