Trae Young hasn’t registered a single statistic for the Washington Wizards since getting traded to the team in January.

Yet, the former Atlanta Hawks superstar landed an ejection on Monday as the Wizards faced the Houston Rockets. Young was seen getting heated at game officials. The NBA considered Young’s actions as “running on the court,” which could lead to a suspension.

Fortunately for Young and the Wizards, the ejection will be the only punishment for the incident. According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, the league doesn’t plan to take further action.

Young, 27, landed just the second ejection of his career on Monday night. He’s currently on the team’s injury report, dealing with multiple setbacks. That has been the case since Young made the move to DC.

The former Oklahoma star landed in the NBA during the 2018 NBA Draft. He was selected fifth-overall by the Dallas Mavericks. Young was swapped out of Dallas in a deal that would net the Mavericks a rookie Luka Doncic.

In Atlanta, Young became a household NBA star. Despite being an undersized guard on a struggling team in a small market, he managed to stand out as a full-time starter during his rookie season. By year two, Young made the NBA’s All-Star game, averaging 29.6 points per game, along with 8.1 assists.

During his Hawks tenure, Young came up just short of playing in 500 games. He was a four-time All-Star across eight years, and averaged 25.2 points per game, while shooting 43% from the field and 35% from three.

Young’s run with the Hawks in 2025-2026 would last 10 games. In an average of 28.0 minutes of action, Young produced 19.3 points on 41% shooting. He dished out 8.9 assists per game.

The Hawks traded Young to the Wizards in early January, signaling the end of an era. In the deal, the Hawks landed CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, as they look to contend during the 2025-2026 season.

Although Young has been with the Wizards for nearly two months without a single appearance, all signs point to his return to the court being later this week. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Young is expected to make his Wizards debut when the Utah Jazz pay a visit to Washington DC on Thursday.

There was initially a thought that Young’s ejection could affect his start date, but the league will seemingly move on without any punishment for Young.
