The Miami Dolphins are broken. There is no two ways about it.

Sitting at 1-5 on the year, there is little that this team has left to hang on. The postseason hopes took another shot with the loss against the Los Angeles Chargers, and it appears that head coach Mike McDaniel may have lost the locker room.
It might also appear that Tua Tagovailoa has lost his teammates as well. The Dolphins quarterback offered some sobering words after the loss, but the admission of certain details has led to an explosion of calls for the organization to clean house.
Tagovailoa talked to reporters after the game, stating that “leadership” was a mega problem. He also admitted that players are late or flat-out skipping player-only meetings.
“I think it starts with the leadership and helping articulate that for the guys and what we’re expecting out of the guys. Right? We’re expecting this, we’re getting that, we’re not getting that. We have guys showing up to player-only meetings late; guys not showing up to player-only meetings. There’s a lot that goes into that… It’s a lot of that nature that we have to get cleaned up and it starts with the little things like that,” Tagovailoa said.
More news: Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa Comments Spark Mike McDaniel Concern
What the Dolphins’ signal caller may not understand is that he seemingly called out or hinted at the fact that McDaniel and the coaches may have lost the locker room. This is an inference, but one that is shared by former NFL player and analyst Emmanuel Acho.
Acho took to X to divulge on what Tagovailoa’s comments mean for this Dolphins team.
“The Dolphins have to fire their coaches after these statements, Tua also just incriminated himself. He doesn’t have the respect of all his teammates. If players are skipping player only meetings, there is not a healthy reverence of leadership or authority inside the walls,” Acho posted on X.
Acho has a huge point in that the Dolphins are clearly far more dysfunctional than players just skipping player-only meetings. The player-only meetings are also a subject that has come from Tagovailoa on other occasions.
With rumors and reports that McDaniel is on the proverbial hot seat, and Dolphins owner Stephen Ross growing frustrated with the situation, a fifth loss could lead to some sweeping changes. Tagovailoa’s comments also do not spark much confidence and may have damaged the situation even more.
With the trade deadline fast approaching, Tyreek Hill out for the season, and a 1-5 record that has not improved, this Dolphins team may need to blow things up. Ross might fire McDaniel, general manager Chris Grier, and trade away players by the deadline to start over completely in 2026.
