The Buffalo Bills pulled off a solid 31-21 win over the Miami Dolphins last Thursday, which gave quarterback Josh Allen a reason to celebrate.
But now, Allen has an even bigger reason to be thrilled because he avoided getting slapped with a punishment from the NFL for a particular celebration he had during that game.
Every Saturday during the regular season, the NFL fines players whose actions in-game violate the league’s rules.
“To protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity, the NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed on a set of game-related rules violations that may result in accountability measures,” the NFL rulebook states as to why fines are handed out.
The money collected from the weekly fines go to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to “further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game,” according to the league.
During the Bills’ game against the Dolphins last week, Allen completed 22 of 28 passes for 213 yards, three touchdowns and had an additional 25 rushing yards.
But during the game, Allen appeared to make some kind of a handgun gesture at a Dolphins player after getting up from a tackle, which could have resulted in a fine if the NFL deemed it as inappropriate.
But when the NFL sent out their report on Saturday, Allen’s name wasn’t included, and he avoided getting slapped with a fine for “unsportsmanlike conduct.”
While no Bills players were fined this week, two Dolphins players were.
Offensive lineman Aaron Brewer was fined $17,389 for “unnecessary roughness” with a “blindside block,” and running back Ollie Gordon was served a $5,045 fine for “unnecessary roughness” for “use of the helmet.”
The Buffalo Bills take on the New Orleans Saints at home on Sunday.
