The NHRA has officially secured the future of its Arizona Nationals at Firebird Motorsports Park in an announcement involving a multi-year extension agreement with Firebird Motorsports Park and the Gila River Indian Community. This contract ensures that the revered event will remain a staple on the NHRA calendar.

Announced just in time for the event’s upcoming 40th anniversary, the extension coincides with a celebration that promises to take its legacy as a hub for motorsports enthusiasts to the next level.

The Arizona Nationals, set for March 21-23, 2025, will be the second race in the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season. Historically known for drawing sellout crowds, the Arizona Nationals have long cemented themselves as a fan-favorite.

In a statement celebrating this extension, Firebird Motorsports Park Track Manager Casey Buckman said the following:

“When we announced last year that we were carrying on the legacy and tradition of over 40 years of motorsports here at the Firebird Motorsports Park, our goal was to prove our commitment to our racing community and show them that we are in this for the long-haul.

“Along with our great partners at the NHRA, Gila River Development, and the Gila River Indian Community, we are beyond excited to take this monumental step to secure a multi-year deal for our anchor event, the Arizona Nationals. Our racing community has stuck by Firebird through some very uncertain times over the past few years, and we cannot wait to take this momentum into 2025 and reward them with great events for years to come.”

Glen Cromwell, NHRA President, echoed this enthusiasm:

“It is extremely exciting to announce not only a return to Firebird Motorsports Park but also a long-term extension for the NHRA Arizona Nationals at the historic facility.”

He further praised the collaboration with the Gila River Indian Community and the unwavering support from fans and local stakeholders.

“The amazing work from the NHRA fans, the track, and the Gila River Indian Community will continue to keep NHRA drag racing in the area for years to come.

“Last year was a tremendous event with a reimagining of racing at Firebird Motorsports Park, and we’re eager to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the NHRA Arizona Nationals next season, as well as events well into the future.”

Renamed Firebird Motorsports Park last year, the venue’s storied history includes memorable feats, such as John Force and Tony Schumacher’s multiple victories, as well as recent wins by icons like Shawn Langdon and Greg Anderson.

As the NHRA readies itself for the 40th-anniversary celebration, the future of Firebird Motorsports Park looks to be an exciting one. The release of tickets for the eagerly anticipated “Duel in the Desert” event begins on October 14, and it will be a cornerstone event in the drag racing scene.
