Despite trailing UNC 70-56 with 7:11 remaining in the second half, the Rams earned an 82-78 overtime win in the first round at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.
It was the second consecutive loss by the Tar Heels in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

On Friday morning, outside noise started to mount on the future of Davis.
Per InsideCarolina, decision-makers in Chapel Hill have been discussing Davis. They are worried about Davis’ ability to build a roster, fundraise and the team’s recent performance.
Sources told InsideCarolina that a coaching change is “likely” to be made in the coming days.
During his postgame news conference, Davis sidestepped a question about falling in the first round of the NCAA Tournament twice in a row. He was saddened by the early exit.
“Yeah, that’s a big thinking question, and I apologize, I’m just not there right now,” Davis said, via 274Sports. “Just really sad that we’re not continuing to play and to move forward because I have loved and enjoyed this team. I enjoy and love all of them, but I’ve just really enjoyed coaching this team.
“I really wanted this group and these kids to experience more. But other than that, I’m just thinking about these guys and the rest of the guys that are in the locker room.”
Davis was a long-time assistant under Roy Williams at North Carolina before taking over head coaching duties in 2021. He is 125-54 overall during his five seasons as head coach.
Davis brought UNC to an appearance in the national championship in 2022.
