A chaotic golden retriever has captured internet users’ attention after a viral video showed exactly why his owners never ask friends to dog-sit him.

The Instagram clip was shared on Thursday under the username @waggingwithleo, quickly racking up thousands of views and reactions.

In the video, the dog, Leo, is seen misbehaving in just about every way imaginable. From sitting on the table to destroying the couch, eating plants, stealing toilet paper, rummaging through the dumpster, diving into the toilet and more, the reel offers a rapid-fire montage of mess and mayhem.

The humor of the video is driven not just by Leo’s antics, but also by the reason his owners say he is never left with friends. The caption lays it out plainly: “Why don’t you ever ask your friends to watch Leo. Because we still want to be friends with them.”

It continues, “Watching Leo is NOT for the weak. Luckily, we usually just bring him (& the chaos) with us wherever we go.”

That tongue-in-cheek explanation struck a chord with viewers, many of whom could relate to having a pet that is lovable but overwhelming.

The person behind the post, Callie from Australia, later explained the context behind the viral moment in an interview with Newsweek.

She said: “The star of the video is my adopted golden retriever, Leo. This reel was just poking fun at how chaotic he can be sometimes! He’s a bit of a handful, but we love him (although we probably wouldn’t volunteer our friends to dog-sit him).”

Rather than showcasing frustration, the video leans into humor and affection. Each clip emphasizes Leo’s unfiltered enthusiasm and lack of boundaries, while also making it clear that his owners have embraced the chaos as part of life with him.

Social-media users responded enthusiastically. The video has so far accumulated more than 21,000 views and almost 1,000 likes, turning Leo into an unexpected online star.

One user, Zaphee_the_lab, commented: “Bro is on a mission to do whatever he wants at all times! Go fren!!”

Sekrajnak said: “What a character!”

Twoboys.onegolden added: “Retriever sitting ain’t for the faint hearted.”
