The Green Bay Packers are unsure if Jordan Love or Malik Willis will start at quarterback against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18.

With the Packers locked as the No. 7 seed in the NFC, head coach Matt LaFleur could decide to rest his starters against Minnesota before the playoffs.

Love suffered a concussion in the second quarter of the Packers’ 22-16 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 16. He did not play Green Bay’s 41-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night because he had not passed the league’s concussion protocol.

Willis has added an extra element to the offense because of his mobility. He threw for 288 yards and one touchdown against the Ravens.

Willis added 60 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, keeping the Packers in the game until the defense fell apart in the second half. His effort was even more impressive considering he played through a shoulder injury.

During his news conference on Sunday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was asked if the team would consider promoting Willis over Love, since the 2022 third-round pick has the hot hand.

Per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, LaFleur made it clear Green Bay expects to start Love in the postseason if he passes the concussion protocol.

Via Schneidman:

“Matt LaFleur on if Malik Willis gives the Packers a better chance to win than Jordan Love: ‘I wanna pump the brakes on all that stuff.’ Compliments Willis and his play, but emphasizes Love is the franchise quarterback and reiterates he wants to ‘squash’ any Willis > Love idea.”

Willis has thrown for 422 yards and three touchdowns this season.

LaFleur praised Willis, saying he trusts the quarterback to make any throw the Packers need.

“He can make any throw on the planet,” LaFleur said. “I’d put him up against anybody.”

Love has thrown for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions.
