The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears form one of the biggest rivalries in sports. It goes back years, and even today, the two teams absolutely hate each other.

While the rivalry runs deep, there are always players switching sides from team to team. That has added even more intrigue to the rivalry over the years.

Even though the NFL offseason is winding down, a scenario has been suggested that would see a former key Bears defender joining the Packers.

Green Bay did not approach NFL free agency aggressively early in the offseason. Brian Gutekunst, the team’s general manager, did sign both offensive lineman Aaron Banks and cornerback Nate Hobbs, but the Packers did not address their pass-rushing situation.

A new name has been suggested as a late-offseason target for Green Bay to bring in a new edge piece.

Recently, Fox Sports analyst Carmen Vitali suggested that the Packers bring in former Chicago edge rusher DeMarcus Walker.

Walker was released earlier this offseason by the Bears. If he were to land in Green Bay, he would have some extra motivation to beat his former team.

During the 2024 NFL season, the 30-year-old defensive end racked up 47 total tackles to go along with 3.5 sacks. In his entire 100-game NFL career, Walker has totaled 191 tackles, 26.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and two defended passes.

Bears’ Caleb Williams Gets Projection That Could Change Everything

It would not take a big amount of money to sign Walker. The Packers could bring him in on a one-year deal and see what he can produce. Should things work out well, Green Bay could bring him back or simply walk away after a successful season together.

Looking at the NFC North division this season, all four teams could be potential playoff teams. Last year, the Packers, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings all made a run to the playoffs. Chicago has taken a huge step forward this offseason and will be looking to take the leap into contention.

Gutekunst and Green Bay may have no interest in Walker, but he could be a wise addition that helps the Packers compete with the rest of the NFC North. It will be interesting to see if Green Bay makes any aggressive moves prior to the start of the 2025 season.
