Dallas Wings All-Star guard Paige Bueckers played beautiful basketball and won WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2025, but it didn’t make a difference in the Wings’ win column. Dallas and the Chicago Sky finished with the league’s worst record at 10-34.
At 6-3, the Wings are already 60% of the way to matching their 2025 win total, and they don’t care what it looks like.
Well, Bueckers kind of cares.
Dallas hosted the Seattle Storm (3-7) for a WNBA Commissioner’s Cup clash Monday night. While the home crowd left happy about a 79-56 Wings win, it was not the most pleasurable viewing experience.
“We want to continue to build and learn, through wins, through losses,” Bueckers, the 2025 No. 1 overall pick, said on USA Sports after the game. “It’s a really long season — 44 games — so we don’t want to think […] we’re entitled to anything, and we don’t want to get complacent. So, we want to continue to keep building. Sometimes, you gotta win ugly, like tonight.”
Bueckers continued, “I feel bad for the people who are watching. They should get all their money back. I don’t even know what the field goal percentage was on both sides, but sometimes, you gotta win ugly, so we’ll take it and keep moving on.”
Seattle shot a dismal 33% from the field, while the Wings weren’t much better at 36%. Bueckers was the only Wings starter to score in double digits. She recorded 10 points on 4-for-12 shooting from the field, nine rebounds, and seven assists.
The Wings will look to win their fourth game in a row, which would be their longest winning streak since 2023, when they visit the Los Angeles Sparks for another WNBA Commissioner’s Cup installment on Friday, June 5.
