The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were controversially left out of the College Football Playoff despite going 10-2 during the season and winning 10 straight games to close out the regular season.
At the end of the day, the committee decided that the Miami Hurricanes should jump over Notre Dame and get in. Miami proceeded to pull off an upset over the Texas A&M Aggies in the first round of the playoff, proving that they did belong in the picture.
Unfortunately, the other two teams that got in over the Fighting Irish lost in blowout fashion. It was clear that both Tulane and James Madison had no business being in the playoff picture. That has led to calls for the NCAA to make changes to the playoff.

While Notre Dame is still unhappy with the committee’s decision and decided to pass on playing in a bowl game, notable college football analyst Paul Finebaum did not hesitate to take a shot at the team following Miami’s win over Texas A&M.
Finebaum made it crystal clear just how much he dislikes the noise surrounding the Fighting Irish being left out of the picture.
In an appearance on “The Matt Barrie Show” on Sunday, Finebaum sent a direct message to Notre Dame about his hopes for the Hurricanes in the College Football Playoff.
“I’m glad the first round is over because we really have some classic storylines now. In the first round, we clearly did not. I’d like to see Miami win it all, just to shut Notre Dame fans up,” Finebaum said.
Of course, one of the main reasons that the Fighting Irish missed the playoff was due to a head-to-head loss against Miami in the opening week of the season. Notre Dame lost that game by a final score of 27-24.

There is no question that the Fighting Irish should have been in the playoff picture over both Tulane and James Madison. Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns deserved to be in over those two teams as well.
Notre Dame didn’t do enough early in the season to secure a spot in the playoff under the current NCAA rules. However, something needs to change. The best teams in the nation did not all make it into the playoff and that much is extremely obvious.
