It’s rare for the WA Police homicide squad to have an unsolved murder case on their books. In fact, the last time it happened was 10 years ago, when Melville grandmother Valeria Fermendjin was killed inside her home.

But today, authorities have revealed the violent murders of a mother and son in Albany in February this year remain unsolved, with a $1 million reward offered for information that leads to catching their killer.

Erica Coyne, 69, was found dead inside her Burville Street unit in Spencer Park around 3pm on February 8.

Her son, Lloyd Mitchell, 50, was found critically injured inside the same unit, and died weeks later.

Several appeals to the public by investigators have so far failed to provide any clues to what happened to the pair.

The murder weapon is also yet to be found.
