Pete Davidson has broken his silence after his girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, confirmed the pair are expecting their first baby.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, published on Tuesday, July 22, Davidson, 31, expressed his delight over the news. “Well, I honestly couldn’t be more excited. As you know, it’s been my dream forever since I was a little kid,” he told the outlet.

Davidson also reflected on Hewitt, 29, praising her generously. “The baby’s mother is one of my favorite people to ever exist ever,” he said. “She’s going to be a great mom and I’m just stoked. I hope to be a, you know, the dad I hoped that I would have.” (Davidson’s late firefighter father, Scott Davidson, passed away during the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York City’s World Trade Center.)

Hewitt revealed via Instagram on Wednesday, July 16, that she is pregnant with the couple’s first baby.

“Welp, now everyone knows we had sex,” Hewitt jokingly captioned a carousel of maternity and sonogram photos featuring the Saturday Night Live alum.

As for Davidson, a source exclusively told Us Weekly at the time that “he is excited about this next chapter.”

Several of the couple’s celebrity friends also celebrated Hewitt’s pregnancy news in the comments section of her upload.

“HEHEHEHEHEHE IM SO HAPPY BEST MOMMY EVERRRRR,” influencer Meredith Mickelson replied. “My bestie is having my mini bestie, which means my life is complete.”

Actress Lexie Coons, for her part, added, “Have never been so excited” and “Elsie Eats (For Two)!!” in two separate comments. (Hewitt runs the food Instagram account @ElsieEats.)

Davidson and Hewitt publicly confirmed their relationship in March, two months before making their official red carpet debut at the Endometriosis Foundation of America’s Blossom Ball in New York City.

“@endofound 13th annual #BlossomBall 💜 this work, research & advocacy is extremely important to me,” Hewitt wrote via Instagram in May. “Thank you @seckinmd @padmalakshmi for having me and for all that you do for women’s reproductive health.”

Before Davidson started dating Hewitt, he long had high hopes that his future would include fatherhood.

“[I’m] definitely a family guy,” the comedian said on Kevin Hart’s Hart to Heart in 2022. “My favorite thing ever, which I have yet to achieve, I wanna have a kid. That’s like my dream. It’s like, super corny, [but] it would be so fun. Dress up the little dude. It’s just, like, I’m so excited for that chapter.”

According to Davidson, he was “very excited” about becoming a dad after navigating the death of his own father, Scott. (Scott was a firefighter who died while responding to  the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.)

“I don’t want a kid to ever feel like how I feel right now. It wasn’t his fault [that] he passed away,” Davidson added to Hart, now 46, during the Hart to Heart broadcast. “But just to be there so that someone doesn’t have to feel like that. I’m very excited to do that for someone and watch them have what I didn’t.”

After his dad’s passing, Davidson grew up with his single mom, Amy, and his sister, Casey.

“My childhood was not great. Dad passed early,” he added to Hart in 2022. “I just did not handle it great. It was just a f***ing nightmare.”
