The Round of 64 in the Men’s March Madness is over and we saw some great action take place. Like always, there were strong finishes and exciting moments that led to upsets going down.
Now, we are in the Round of 32 and the stakes are higher for every single team. But which teams are poised to pull off the biggest upsets?
Newsweek Sports has you covered with that. Here are the biggest potential upsets from the Round of 32 this year.
No. 10 Arkansas vs No. 2 St. John’s
While St. John’s is the much better team entering this game, we can’t count out John Calipari. His teams normally are ready for the tournament and that makes the Razorbacks as dangerous as any team.
Arkansas can make this a game and we could be in for a show. Calipari going up against Rick Pitino is peak college basketball viewing for any fan.
No. 11 Drake over No. 3 Texas Tech
Drake showed why many believed they could be a Cinderella team in their first-round win over Missouri. The Bulldogs overpowered the Tigers and made life extremely tough all game.
Texas Tech won’t be easy to take down but Drake seems ready for the challenge. The Red Raiders were in a close game against UNC Wilmington and barely escaped the first-round.
No. 8 Gonzaga vs No. 1 Houston
Houston is the heavy favorite here but there is something about the Bulldogs when March comes around. Gonzaga is consistent each season and it has earned them a strong reputation.
It will be tough to beat the Cougars but this Gonzaga team is ready. Gonzaga obliterated Georgia in the first round, showing what they can be capable of in any given game.
No. 12 Colorado State vs No. 4 Maryland
Colorado State was a trendy pick with upsets in the first round and they covered that title just fine. Now they face a tough Maryland team as they look to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
Star Nique Clifford didn’t have a good game and Colorado State still found a way to win. This team has strong depth and in March, that tends to matter.
No. 8 UConn vs No. 1 Florida
Everyone counted out the Huskies this season due to a down year and rightfully so. They weren’t as dominant as in previous years but this program knows how to win.
Dan Hurley is one of the better coaches in college basketball and will have his guys ready to go. The Gators looked impressive in the first-round but it would be so fitting for this UConn team to enter the tournament with no expectations and take down a No. 1 seed.
