The Kansas City Chiefs selected cornerback Trent McDuffie at No. 21 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. Since then, McDuffie became the best slot corner in the league and earned First Team All-Pro honors in 2023. His first three seasons in the NFL all ended in the Super Bowl, with the Chiefs winning back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023.

The Chiefs traded the 25-year-old star to the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday. With the Rams, McDuffie will have a chance to win his third ring in five years. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that the Rams and McDuffie agreed upon a four-year, $124 million extension with $100 guaranteed to make McDuffie the highest-paid cornerback in league history.

So, it’s pretty great to be McDuffie right now, and his reaction to his trade and fresh contract reflects that.

“God is Good,” McDuffie posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday night. He punctuated it with a blue heart.

Not only does joining the Rams make McDuffie an instant Super Bowl favorite, but it also marks a homecoming. McDuffie is from Westminster, California, which is roughly 30 minutes away from the Rams’ SoFi Stadium. Rams pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake coached McDuffie at the University of Washington, and McDuffie was a college teammate of Rams All-Pro wide receiver Puka Nacua for two years.

McDuffie’s trade and extension will become official when the new league year begins on March 11 at 4 p.m. EST. The Rams sent the Chiefs one of their 2026 first-round draft picks (No. 29), a 2026 fifth-round pick, a 2026 sixth-round pick, and a 2027 third-round pick in exchange for McDuffie. The 2026 NFL Draft begins on April 23 in Pittsburgh.
