D’Angelo, Grammy Award winning R&B singer, has died at age 51 from cancer, The New York Times reported.

The singer, known for his smooth voice and sensual lyrics, died Tuesday in New York City, sources told the outlet.

D’Angelo’s debut 1995 album Brown Sugar climbed the charts, while his 2000 song and music video Untitled (How Does It Feel) ruled the radio and air waves.

He won multiple Grammy’s for Best R&B Album, Best R&B Song and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
