Matt Fitpatrick was victorious yet again at the RBC Heritage, claiming his second win in four years on Sunday at Harbor Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
It would take quite the performance, too, as the English golfer defeated the world’s top golfer, Scottie Scheffler, in a playoff to seize the win. After Scheffler forced the playoff with his late comeback, Fitzpatrick’s 4-iron to 13 feet for birdie was the difference in today’s finale.
“It means the world. This is a tournament I wanted to win growing up more than any of the majors before I understood more about the game. To go toe-to-toe with Scottie and get it over the line is special,” he said after the thrilling win.
Fitzpatrick and Scheffler are both coming off appearances at The Masters 2026, where Fitzpatrick finished tied for 18th, while Scheffler finished in second place behind the winner, Rory McIlroy.

Despite a great start on Sunday, Fitzpatrick bogeyed the 18th hole in regulation. Scheffler went to the final tee box down by just one shot, which helped him force the playoff matchup.
However, Fitzpatrick’s final round featured a 1-under 70 followed by a calm, composed birdie on the first playoff hole.
It was his second win of the season after winning the Valspar Championship in March. And with Sunday’s big victory also comes a big payout for Fitzpatrick, who claimed the most money from the $20 million RBC Heritage 2026 purse.
According to Golf Digest, he earned a hefty $3.6 million for his weekend of work at the golf course. Scheffler didn’t do all that badly, walking away with $2.16 million as the runner-up, while Si Woo Kim claimed $1.36 million for finishing third place on the leaderboard.
A significant prize of $823,333.31 each went to three players who tied for fourth: Collin Morikawa, Harris English, and Ludvig Aberg. Bud Cauley, who finished in seventh place, claimed $665,000.
With today’s win at the RBC Heritage, Fitzpatrick has topped $35 million in career earnings, an impressive number for the English golfer. He previously won the event in 2023, also in a playoff against Jordan Spieth. That was Fitzpatrick’s first PGA Tour victory.
With two wins already under Fitzpatrick’s belt this season, it feels like he has momentum towards additional winning performances.
Based on the schedule, his upcoming events will include the Cadillac Championship on April 30, the Truist Championship beginning May 7, the Memorial Tournament starting on June 4, and the U.S. Open starting on June 18.
