The Boston Red Sox have been one of the hottest teams in baseball this month. However, there are still holes on their roster to patch up before the trade deadline.

While the pitching rotation and bullpen are spots that need upgrading, the biggest hole on the roster is at first base. Unfortunately for the Red Sox, there aren’t many talented first basemen expected to hit the market.

FanSided’s Nick Villano recently favored the Red Sox over the Seattle Mariners in a potential trade for Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor. Naylor is likely going to be the top first baseman on the trade block in the coming weeks.

“Naylor is a first baseman, which will come at a premium this deadline. There aren’t many available, and Naylor is already heavily tied to the Seattle Mariners,” Villano wrote. “However, we think a team is going to come over the top with an offer.

“A team that was once making calls on their behalf to sell off their assets is now in the position to buy. That’s the Boston Red Sox. Even with their ownership being notoriously cheap, they can’t ignore the momentum they’ve had since the Devers trade. They desperately need pop in their lineup. They will get it soon with Alex Bregman returning to the lineup, but they need more.”

The Red Sox are the perfect fit for Naylor.

Boston has the pieces to acquire him. Its farm system is loaded with talent, so the slugger isn’t going to be out of their price range. With Triston Casas on the shelf with a knee injury, Naylor could slot in as the perfect replacement.

Adding a slugger with the bat to ball skills of Naylor would give the Red Sox another middle-of-the-order bat to pair with Alex Bregman.
