The Philadelphia 76ers suffered through a brutal 2024-25 NBA season. With both Joel Embiid and Paul George missing huge chunks of the season due to injuries, the team never had a chance to live up to their full ability.

Heading into year two together, the hope has been that the 76ers could get back to full health and make a run.

While that could still happen, there are lingering concerns regarding Embiid and George’s ability to stay healthy. Both players have had multiple years with injuries completely derailing them.

Keeping that in mind, a new update about Embiid’s future has been shared.

NBA Insider Issues Massive Lakers, LeBron James Future Prediction

Grant Afseth of Fastbreak Journal has reported that there is concern about Embiid ever being able to fully regain or sustain the level of play that made him a superstar. Afseth also reported that there is concern about Embiid potentially needing another knee surgery in the future.

“Sources with knowledge of Embiid’s situation have privately expressed concerns to FastbreakJournal.com about whether he can fully regain, and more importantly, sustain his prior level of play,” Afseth wrote. “One source also indicated there is internal concern about the possibility of Embiid requiring another procedure on the same knee down the line, which has only heightened unease about his long-term outlook.”

Embiid ended up playing in just 19 games last season. He averaged 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 0.9 blocks per game.

Back in the 2023-24 campaign with Philadelphia, he played in just 39 games. In that season, he averaged 34.7 points, 11 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game, while shooting 52.9 percent from the floor and 38.8 percent from three-point distance.

At 31 years old, Embiid is not getting any younger. His injury issues are starting to become a much bigger concern.

Knicks Speculation Heats Up Around Former No 1 Pick

Hopefully, he is able to avoid having to go through another knee surgery. The next hope is that he is able to get back to being the dominant superstar that he has been for years with the 76ers.

Only time will tell, but this is not the kind of news Philadelphia wants to hear. It truly sounds like Embiid could be in trouble both in the present and in the future.

Expect to hear a lot more about Embiid’s current status as the 2025-26 NBA season draws closer.
