Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna of Florida posted to social media on Wednesday warning Senate Leader John Thune to look into allegations against one of his colleagues. Luna called the allegations “very disturbing.”

Her public appeal came as Congress dealt with resignations amid misconduct allegations as Representatives Eric Swalwell of California, a Democrat, and Tony Gonzalez, a Texas Republican, stepped down this week.

A message sent to Thune’s office was not immediately returned late Wednesday.

Why It Matters

Luna’s statement injected new uncertainty into an already volatile moment on Capitol Hill, where recent resignations intensified scrutiny of alleged misconduct and accountability for members of Congress.

The Republican House majority is also a concern, as Speaker Mike Johnson’s control is held by a razor-thin margin.

What To Know

Taking to X on Wednesday, Luna said, “It’s seems like the Senate has its own trash to take out. @LeaderJohnThune You need to look into the allegations against one of your Senators, it’s very disturbing. My chief will be contacting your chief.”

Spokesman for Luna’s office, David Leatherwood, wrote in an email to Newsweek when asked to which lawmaker Luna was referring in her post, “That’s a question for John Thune!” Leatherwood did not indicate what Luna or her staff relayed to Thune’s office, if anything.

This is a developing story that will be updated with additional information.
