San Diego police responded Monday to reports of an active shooter near the Islamic Center of San Diego in the Clairemont Mesa neighborhood.
Officers began receiving calls around 11:40 a.m. local time about a shooting outside the mosque at 7050 Eckstrom Avenue, near Balboa Avenue, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Police said the situation remains active and urged the public to avoid the area as officers investigate.
Authorities have also shut down northbound Interstate 805 at Balboa Avenue due to law enforcement activity, San Diego’s 10 News reported. There was no immediate word on injuries.
