A rather shocking comment made by Savannah Guthrie on Today left everyone — including her longtime cohosts — scratching their heads, as they mistook the remark as a Jenna Bush Hager pregnancy announcement.
The confusion sparked during the Monday, June 9, episode of the morning talk show when Guthrie, 53, introduced Bush Hager’s Morning Boost segment by saying, “Jenna’s got a little something in the oven for the Boost.”
Almost immediately, questions began to swirl as Bush Hager’s male cohosts were left majorly bewildered by the comment. “Wait, what?” Carson Daly asked.
Bush Hager, 43, teased the clip for the segment, but chatter could still be heard in the background among Guthrie and the other cohosts sitting at the news desk: Daley, 51, Al Roker and Craig Melvin.
“Stop that! Stop that!” Guthrie could be heard telling her male costars as they continued to speculate about Jenna and the comment.
“Did you say Jenna’s pregnant?” Roker, 70, said, as Daly asked, “Are you making an announcement?”
Bush Hager shut down the questions by shaking her head no. “You guys, I understood what she said,” the former first daughter said, referring to the way Guthrie introduced the segment.
“I’m so excited for you!” someone else could be heard saying in the background.
While Bush Hager subtly shut down the speculation that she was announcing baby news on the broadcast, she is already a mom of three kids, Mila, 13, Poppy, 9, and Hal, 5, with her husband of 17 years, Henry Hager.
She did previously address whether or not she was interested in expanding her family again in the future. During an episode of Today With Jenna & Friends on March 3, Guthrie joined Bush Hager as her cohost for the day. During that episode, said that she had a dream that Bush Hager welcomed baby No. 4, but Bush Hage was quick to put the dream to bed.
“I have nothing to announce,” she told Guthrie and the audience. “I’m pretty sure I’ve come to terms that three, even though it’s an imperfect number, is the perfect number for our house.”
“It’s very normal,” Guthrie replied. “I think they call it ‘being broody.’ You’re kind of broody for a third or a fourth. I would have had a third in a heartbeat, but, you know, I was up against the clock.”
Guthrie is also a mom of two kids, Vale, 10, and Charley, 8, whom she shares with husband Mike Feldman. In addition to forging a lasting friendship of their own while working together on television, the duo’s kids are also great friends despite no longer living in close proximity to each other.
“Our kids are still buddies. What we just do now is, she’s out of the city, so we just make weekend plans and try to see each other,” Guthrie told People in March 2023. “It was such a beautiful moment in time, those five, six, seven years that we were neighbors. Our kids grew up together.”
“They were more like cousins than anything,” Guthrie said. “Hal, her youngest, is my godson, so my kids like to call the other kids their godbrothers and sisters. And it feels like family.”
