A “scared” young puppy has captured hearts online after being returned to the same animal shelter for the third time in less than a year.
In a viral TikTok video shared on Sunday by Jackie Gonzalez, a volunteer at the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, the pup, named Freya, can be seen sitting quietly in her kennel, appearing downcast and unsure. The clip was posted under the username @jjack.iie and has already drawn thousands of reactions from viewers moved by her story.
The on-screen caption explains her situation in blunt terms. “Rehomed twice, back where she started scared, nervous, but ready for a forever home,” it reads.
It goes on to introduce Freya as a puppy who has been “dumped as a puppy, rehomed twice, and now back at the shelter,” while highlighting her gentle nature. According to the caption, she “loves humans and gets along with dogs and cats just waiting for a forever home that won’t let her down.”
Freya’s repeated returns have taken an emotional toll, according to Gonzalez, who spoke to Newsweek about the dog’s journey so far. “Meet Freya, an 11-month-old shepherd who’s already been returned three times…and none of it is her fault,” Gonzalez said.
Since coming back into the shelter’s care, Freya has been noticeably affected by the upheaval. Gonzalez described the pup as struggling to understand what has happened.
“Since being back in our care, she’s been struggling—quiet, confused, and heartbroken,” the volunteer said, adding: “You can see it in her eyes…like she’s still waiting, still wondering where her family went.”
Freya’s story began long before the latest return. As a very young puppy, she was abandoned alongside her siblings, an experience that shaped her early months.
“As a tiny puppy, Freya was dumped with her siblings. She never really got the chance to feel safe, to feel chosen,” Gonzalez said. Now, after being rehomed and returned twice, the dog finds herself back where she started once again.
Despite everything she has been through, Freya’s temperament remains loving and social. Gonzalez emphasized that she is friendly with other animals and adores people, saying: “Despite everything, Freya is dog-friendly, cat-friendly, and absolutely loves people. She just wants someone to finally choose her…and never let her go.”
For those caring for her, the situation feels especially unfair. “She deserves so much more than this,” Gonzalez said. The shelter hopes the attention from the viral video will help Freya find a stable, permanent home.
The clip has so far received more than 6,500 views and over 1,000 likes on TikTok, with many commenters expressing sympathy and hope for her future.
One user, Victoria Bocklage, commented: “Here to get this baby seen and into a loving Forever home.”
Right here said: “This is heartbreaking.”
Joe DeMello added: “She deserves a home.”
