A search is under way for a missing 11-year-old boy who police believe may be hiding in bushland around Anglesea.

Victoria Police said Mount Duneed boy Toby went was last seen around 2.30pm on Monday when he ran from a vehicle opposite a service station on the Great Ocean Road.

Toby, aged 11, went missing on the Surf Coast on Monday afternoon.

“Toby has autism and is described as having blond shoulder-length hair,” police said, releasing an image on Monday evening to help find the child.

“He was wearing a light blue jacket with a hood with white polar fleece inside and black shorts as seen in the image provided.”

A police helicopter hovered over Anglesea as the State Emergency Service joined the search as dusk fell.

Locals and school holidaymakers alike were told to check their properties as emergency services scoured near the mouth of the Anglesea River and town foreshore.
