Police in Bridgewater, N.S. say they are the investigating the death of a woman found inside her home Sunday morning as a case of intimate partner violence.

Officers responded to a 911 call from a home on Haven Drive “for a female in medical distress,” police said in a news release on Monday.

Police say they located an elderly female inside the residence who “was injured from what appeared to be an assault with a weapon,” the release went on to say.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“An elderly male was located with related injuries inside a second room of the same residence,” police said.

The man was taken to hospital in police custody and was treated for his wounds. He is scheduled to appear from hospital before Bridgewater Provincial Court on Monday.

In the release, police noted that the province passed a bill last September declaring intimate partner violence an epidemic in Nova Scotia and encouraged people to reach out for support.
