A man allegedly opened fired on Border Patrol agents in Chicago Saturday.
The shooter was driving a Jeep when the shots were fired near 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue, as the agents conducted immigration enforcement operations, the US Department of Homeland Security wrote on X.
Agitators also hurled a paint can and bricks at the agency’s vehicles during an immigration enforcement operation, DHS said.
Chicago cops cleared the scene, and the shooter remains at large.
“This incident is not isolated and reflects a growing and dangerous trend of violence and obstruction,” DHS said in its post.
“Over the past two months, we’ve seen an increase in assaults and obstruction targeting federal law enforcement during operations. These confrontations highlight the dangers our agents face daily and the escalating aggression toward law enforcement. The violence must end.”
